WVU-Pitt basketball game was last night. I didn't go (lol class), but everyone's heard all about it.

What the fuck.

How did we go from being nationally commended for our classiness at the UConn football game to being looked down upon for shit like this? Way to go, guys.

Anyway, meme time! This time, swiped from [livejournal.com profile] crazedninja.

Leave a comment saying, "COMMENT" and I will give you five words I associate with you. Then post about what they mean to you, along with this, at your journal.

1) Vocaloid. There was a bunch of tl;dr here about how I discovered/got into Vocaloid fandom, but then I realized that wasn't really the point of this meme. I like the Vocaloids as characters, and I've always had a fondness for music that is electronic in nature (which might explain why I listen to so much autotuned stuff these days), but that's really just scratching the surface.

To me, Vocaloid software is an incredible tool that has created an entire culture based around freedom of expression, and making that freedom accessible to the common person. Vocal synthesizing software has been around forever without much, if any, of a following, but this software had a face and identity attached to it that people could really connect to. With a face came appeal, and with appeal came widespread use; with just a voice, amateur (and sometimes professional) songwriters could share their work and expression with the masses, through websites like NicoNicoDouga and Youtube. Then with the phenomenon of "utattemita," human covers of songs popularized by Vocaloids, comes yet another direct connection between artists and their audience.

The fact that all of this has occurred-- and still occurs, every day-- without need of big-name record labels or contracts is amazing to me. I think it's even more amazing to see what one song can really lead to.

2) MTNN. THAT'S ACTUALLY FOUR WORDS SAM, WAY TO CHEAT. uh, anyway. I got into Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro through the anime, which I loved for its slick animation and crazy murder plots, but then I read the manga and came to realize that the anime was actually pretty a pretty subpar adaptation. Sure, Yuusei Matsui is not an amazing artist, and MTNN has a reputation for being one of the uglier Jump mangas. However, he is a master of surreal art and visual metaphors, so much so that they're virtually a trademark of the series. IMO, although the botched ending and unnecessary filler episodes are more to blame, the lack of his crazy grotesque images and metaphors was partially what made the anime adaptation so bad.

3) Kristoph. oh, Kristoph Gavin. lol. Easily my favorite out of all the Ace Attorney villains (at least until Investigations comes out), simply for his class, his aloof air, his ability to hold a crazy grudge and his tendency to go batshit fucking insane over something completely trivial. Also, trufax: finding the face on his hand in 4-4 scared the shit out of me.

4) Gabranth. 野良犬さん~! okay but seriously. I don't want to write another essay, so instead I will provide a simple sequence, starting from around the time FFXII first came out to...lol, about a few months ago:

-> "OMG THEY PUT JUDGEMASTER CID IN THIS GAME OMG SO COOL OMG CID OMG- wait, who the fuck is Gabranth"
-> "WTF, WHAT IS THIS STUPID EVIL TWIN PLOT DOING IN MY FINAL FANTASY, COULDN'T THEY HAVE COME UP WITH ANYTHING BETTER"
-> "wait am I supposed to be sympathizing with that evil twin guy- GDIT HE'S GOING TO TURN ~GOOD~ AT THE END, ISN'T HE"
-> "holy shit this evil twin guy Play Arts is the most badass figure I've ever seen, I have to have it- OMG HIS SWORDS HOOK TOGETHER INTO A GIANT BADASS SWORDTHING, OMG, DO THEY DO THAT IN THE GAME"
-> "OMG THEY PUT BADASS EVIL TWIN GUY IN DISSIDIA, I CAN BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF PEOPLE WITH HIS GIANT SWORDTHING OMG I NEED THIS GAME"
-> "wtf why is badass evil twin guy so emo- WHAT DO YOU MEAN, HE'S A WOOB"
-> "awright, imma RP mister badass evil woobie twin guy- wait, who the fuck is Noah"

... No, I really have no idea why people seem to like my portrayal of "badass evil woobie twin guy" so much. I really, really don't.

5) CLDR. Even though I might not play there nearly as much as I used to, I will always consider this my LJ home. I love you guys, really. ♥

...

Wow, that was a ton of tl;dr.
